SAN ANTONIO — A seventh-inning rally cme up short on Sunday and Eastern New Mexico University's softball team dropped its fifth consecutive game in the season-opening NCAA Division II College Classic, a 4-3 decision to Texas A&M International.
The Dustdevils (3-2) took a 3-2 lead on a two-out, bases-loaded walk to Emily Smith and added an insurance run in the seventh on Smith's two-out RBI single.
The Zias cut into the margin on a Lizzy Velasquez RBI single with two out in the botto mof the seventh, but Dustevils pitcher Kyndall Raves (1-1) finished off a complete game by gettiing ENMU's Katie Ramsay on a fly ball to center with two runners on.
Internatioal scored twice in the top of the first, but the Zias tied it in the bottom half on a one-out triple by Kyra Sirag, Ramsey'stwo-out RBI single and a run-scoring double by Amy Smith.
The Dustdevils outhit ENMU 12-10. Reaves finished with no walks and five strikeouts while Ramsay (0-2) worked four-plus innings before giving way to Smith.
The Zias return to action this weekend in the Ablilene Christian Classic, a three-team round-robin. ENMU faces Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday, and plays ACU at 3 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
