ENMU's Sims, McWhorter honored by LSC

RICHARDSON, Texas — Junior second baseman Colton Sims and sophomore thrower Dathan McWhorter of Eastern New Mexico University have earned Lone Star Conference player of the week honors for the past week for their performances in baseball and track, respectively.

Sims, from Reno, Nev., was the LSC's co-hitter of the week, going 8-for-9 with a home run, five walks, and four stolen bases in the Greyhounds' season-opening four-game sweep of Adams State last weekend at Greyhound Field.

Sims shared the honor with Angelo State senior center fielder Lee Neumann, who drove in nine runs during the Rams' three-game series last week against Southern Arkansas.

ENMU begins a four-game series at New Mexico Highlands today with a 2 p.m. single game against the Cowboys.

McWhorter, from Texico, was chosen the LSC men's field athlete of the week after placing fourth in shot put with a throw of just over 44 feet in Saturday's Don Kirby Open indoor meet at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

ENMU track squads will be in Levelland, Texas, on Saturday for the South Plains College Invite.
