Last time out: Lovington moved in on a possible regular-season district title on Friday with a 47-42 win at Ruidoso. The Rams lost a non-district matchup at Class 2A No. 2 Dexter 84-62 on Saturday.

Last meeting: The Wildcats held off Portales 56-55 last Tuesday at Lovington.

Of note: The Rams are ranked sixth and the Wildcats eighth in this week's Maxpreps.com Class 3A poll … Portales needs a win tonight and a win on Friday at home against Ruidoso to force a one-game playoff on a neutral floor for the top seed in next week's district tournament. … Junior G Quantel Nash (19) and sophomore P Stephen Lennox (15) combined for 34 points in last week's meeting. Junior G Isaiah Alvarado led PHS with 11 points off the bench, including three 3-pointers.

GIRLS

Lovington (17-7, 2-1 District 4-3A) at Portales (17-6, 2-0)

When: 5:30 p.m. today at the RAC

Last time out: Portales edged the Lady Wildcats 31-27 last Tuesday at Lovington. The Lady Wildcats rebounded with a 50-38 win at Ruidoso on Friday.

Of note: Despite Portales' win last week, Lovington remains ranked fourth and the Lady Rams fifth in the Maxpreps.com Class 3A poll. … PHS would clinch the regular-season district title with a win tonight. …Freshman G Sheraya Cox helped carry PHS past Lovington last week with 16 points, including a clinching free throw in the closing seconds.
