ENMU baseball team ranked ninth in region

Eastern New Mexico University's baseball team is ranked ninth this week in the NCAA Division II South Central Region poll.

The Greyhounds (11-2) are one of five Lone Star Conference teams in the top 10, joined by Incarnate Word (9-1) at No. 2, Angelo State (10-5) at No. 4, Texas A&M-Kingsville (11-3) at No. 5 and West Texas &M (11-2) at No. 6. Heartland Conference member St. Mary's (12-3) tops the poll.

Meantime, ENMU senior Luis Quinones was one of two players named for the Lone Star Conference hitter of the week award, joined by senior infielder Spenser Smith of West Texas A&M.

Quinones went 10-for-17 with four RBIs and two stolen bases in a four-game weekend series against Metro State at Greyhound Field. ENMU won three of the contests.

Quinones, who divides time between shortstop and left field, had at least two hits in each of the four games. He has 185 hits for his career at ENMU, placing him ninth on the school's all-time lost.

It's the third consecutive week the Greyhounds have had a hitter of the week, with senior outfielder Derek Crenshaw earning it two weeks ago and junior second baseman Colton Sims selected last week.
