Cats fall in third-place tilt

ARTESIA — A six-run rally in the top of the seventh inning Saturday lifted the Belen Eagles to a 12-11 victory over Clovis High in the third-place game of the Artesia Invitational.

The Wildcats (2-2) took a 3-0 lead with a three-run second and, except for a brief tie, led the rest of the way until the seventh. They scored four runs in the sixth for an 11-6 advantage.

Austin Adams went 3-for-3 for the Cats, who were outhit 13-12 by the Eagles (3-1). Joe Shelley and Jordan Holguin were each 2-for-5 with a double for Clovis.

The next outing for the Cats is against Valley in a 1 p.m. quarterfinal game on Thursday in a tournament at Roswell.
