Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Sue Strickler and Pastor Michael Brunk want all citizens to interpret Bible scripture with different eyes.
The members of First United Methodist Church lead a study of Lenten practices based on Adam Hamilton's "The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus" each Wednesday evening. Strickler and Brunk started the study to share the benefits of Bible scripture with all citizens.

Members of The First United Methodist Church of Portales study Lenten practices by watching a video based on Adam Hamilton's book "The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus."
The study started the Sunday after Ash Wednesday and will go through March 27. During the study, Strickler and Brunk ask members what they can do for their self, the church congregation and the community.
The study views the life and ministry of Jesus Christ using historical information, archaeological data and stories of faith, according to Strickler.
"The way Adam Hamilton presents biblical material and the depth in which he presents it really works well for a small group," said Strickler, 60, a professor of political science at Eastern New Mexico University and facilitator of the study.
"He put together a study that the whole church can be involved in. Michael and I thought it was a wonderful opportunity for the whole church to be involved in the Lenten study."
Strickler said the study has a strong biblical foundation.
