Portales firefighter found dead at station

Portales firefighter Richard McNally, 46, was found dead Sunday in the Portales fire station, according to City Manager Tom Howell.

Howell declined to comment on how McNally died, but said injuries appeared to be self-inflicted.

Portales Fire Chief Gary Nuckols said he'd have more information Tuesday but was undergoing a stress debriefing with his staff Monday in regard to McNally.

Portales Police Chief Doug Jones referred questions to Nuckols. He declined to release a police incident report, citing "an ongoing investigation."
