Lady Rams bounce back with win over Hobbs

HOBBS — Junior catcher Simone Laurenz hit her second home run of the game, a tie-breaking, two-run shot in the top of the seventh, as the Portales Lady Rams beat Hobbs 5-2 on Thursday night.

Laurenz led off the game with a home run, the second time she's done that this season for the Lady Rams (3-2), who rebounded from a doubleheader loss at home on Saturday to Roswell High.

Freshman Kiersten Ramirez tossed a one-hitter, allowing only two sixth-inning runs which tied the game. She walked four and struck out two.

Her sister, Kaylee, had a fourth-inning home run that pushed PHS in front 2-0. Laurenz and both Ramirezes all went 3-for-4 for the Lady Rams, who pounded out 13 hits.

"I'm pleased with the whole team's effort," PHS coach Robbie Crowley said. "It was much better than last Saturday.

"We hit the ball really well. We put it in play and made them make plays."

The Lady Rams have a 2 p.m. (MST) game on tap on Saturday at Amarillo High.
