Easter brings blessings

We asked area residents why they feel blessed this Easter. Here's what they said:

  • Trevor Weaver, 22, a senior airman stationed at Cannon Air Force Base

"I'm feel blessed that my grandfather came to visit from St. Louis and I got to spend a wonderful day with my girlfriend Bobbie. It feels great to be around family and friends."

  • Hyrason Weaver, 20, a skateboarder who moved from Crown Point to Portales a month ago

"I feel blessed to be alive and to have the family I have. I have a big family out there in Crown Point. I don't know that many people down here yet but I have some good friends. I feel blessed for that too."

  • Alexandra Combs, 21, a domestic violence advocate in Curry and Roosevelt Counties

"My husband is military and his deployment to Afghanistan was recently canceled. His name was pulled randomly so I'm very grateful for that. I feel blessed to have my education out of the way. I received my bachelor's degree in women's studies last December. I also got a new dog, an Australian shepherd."

  • Sean Fox, a fifth grader from La Center, Wash., visiting family in Portales

"I feel blessed to be around my family on Easter and have food and a house to live in. I believe in the Easter bunny and I would like him to deliver some baskets to me. Some movies would be nice."

  • Iesha Wallace, 21, a sophomore at Eastern New Mexico University

"It's good to be alive and be able to better myself in college and to have my family in Lubbock. I feel blessed just to wake up in the morning."

  • Ervin Stidham, 86, a retired appliance repairman from Portales

"We live in America and I feel blessed for that. I feel blessed to be able to have an Easter dinner tomorrow with my family in Clovis. I'm 86 and I'm happy to be in good health. I won't see another 86 (laughing)."

  • Jaelah Lucero, 6, a kindergartner at Brown Elementary

"I learned how to ride a bike today. I'm happy to know Jesus and I love my mommy and daddy."
