PHS girls finish second, boys fourth at Lovington meet

LOVINGTON - Portales High's track teams finished third with 54 1/2 points in girls competition and fourth with 35 points on the boys side in Friday's Wildcat Relays, hosted by Lovington.

Hobbs tallied 128 points to win a three-way battle with Clovis and Lovington, who tied for second at 125, for boys team honors. Clovis took the girls team title with 157 points to 144 1/2 for Hobbs.

Hannah Cabledue had the top finish for the Lady Rams, tying for second in pole vault at 7 feet, 6 inches. Shereya Cox (long jump), McKenzie Bucksath (shot put) and Luzveya Vazquez (100) earned third-place finishes, as did the team's 400 and 800 relays.

Matthew Shelly had the top performance for the boys, finishing second in the 300 hurdles in 43.43 while Michael Nichols was fifth in 43.52. Meantime, Nichols was fourth and Shelly fifth in the 100 hurdles, and Nichols also placed fifth in long jump.

Portales is scheduled to compete in another "Wildcat Relays" on Friday, this time at Clovis.
