Buffs rough up Hounds

West Texas A&M wasted little time jumping on Eastern New Mexico University in the opener of the team's four-game Lone Star Conference baseball series on Friday night at Greyhound Field.

Tyler McKnight led off the game with a double and promtly scored on a since by Patrick Ramirez as the Buffaloes cruised to a 10-0 victory over the struggling Greyhounds.

James Dylan (4-2) threw 126 pitches in the seven-inning, run-rule-shortened game, but finished with a five-hitter. He walked four and struck out 11.

Eight of the nine players in the WT batting order hit safetly as the Buffs (28-17, 14-11 LSC) banged out 16 hits. They scored in every inning except the fifth and seventh.

The teams are slated to play two seven-inning games beginning at 3 p.m. today, then finish the regular season with a nine-inning contest at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

ENMU (19-26, 6-19) stranded 10 runners, leaving the bases loaded in the second after a single by Andres Enriquez and walks to Rafael Romo and Colton Sims. Dylan escapedby striking out Luis Quinones. The Hounds suffered their 10th loss in a row and 16th in the last 18 games.

The Buffs broke the game open with four runs and six hits in the third inning, getting sacrifice flies from Tate Baker and Mitch Tybroski and a two-run single from McKnight. WT added one run in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Brett Humphries took the loss for the Hounds, allowing 10 hits and seven runs in three innings. Dylan Montano pitched the final four frames.

WT, which also received seven walks, stranded 12 baserunners in the contest. Ramirez went 4-for-5 with two RBIs while McKnight, who drove in three runs, and Justin Henderson were both 3-for-4.

Designated hitter Peter Creamer had ENMU's only extra-base hit, a double in the third inning. He reached base two other times, on a walk and a hit-by-pitch.
