LAWTON, Okla. — After being eliminated from a chance to make the Lone Star Conference softball tournament in Friday's doubleheader loss, Eastern New Mexico University just couldn't get up for Saturday's season finale.
Cameron scored six runs in the first inning, shut down a potential comeback bid in the third and went on to an 11-3 win to complete a series sweep. The game was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the eight-run rule.
All nine Aggies in the starting batting order hit safely as Cameron (17-30, 10-17 LSC) tuned up for next week's LSC tournament at Canyon, Texas.
Center fielder Leslie Martini hit a two-run homer in the first, and the Aggies built their lead to 9-0 with a three-run second. The Zias (14-41, 6-21) loaded the bases in the third on a walk, a single and a walk before Albie Medina and Hannah Tush drew bases-loaded walks to make it 9-2.
Samantha Betts (13-14), who pitched a pair of complete games on Friday, then relieved starter Kelsey Hebert and got out of it with two strikeouts and a groundout, effectively settling the issue.
Cameron got a two-out, two-run double from second baseman Spencer Ferrell in the fourth. The Zias tacked on a final run with two out in the fifth on a run-scoring double by Beatriz Caporal.
ENMU finished with six hits, with Caporal and catcher Kyra Sirag each going 2-for-2.
