Clovis to host District 4-3A track meet

CLOVIS — Clovis High School will host combined District 4-5A and District 4-3A track meets today at Leon Williams Stadium.

The 4-5A meet consists of Clovis, Hobbs and Carlsbad, while the 4-3A meet includes Portales, Lovington and Ruidoso.

Field events are slated to begin at 3 p.m., with running finals starting at 5:30 p.m. The two classes will alternated, with 3A going first in some events and 5A in others.

The girls and boys 3,200 runs, meantime, are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with the girls 3A race, followed by girls 5A, boys 3A and boys 5A.

Most of the teams have already qualified the majority of the of the entries they seek for next week's large-school (Classes 3A, 4A and 5A) state competition at the University of New Mexico track facility in Albuquerque.

Some athletes, though, may still qualify today by either finishing in the top two in an event or bettering the qualifying standard set by the NMAA.
