Lady Rams stuggle on first day of 1A-3A state golf

SOCORRO — It wasn't the kind of start the Portales Lady Rams were hoping for on Monday.

Only senior Paige Hartman broke 100 for PHS as the Lady Rams found themselves in last place at 419 in the six-team Class 1A-3A state golf tournament at the New Mexico Tech golf course.

Hartman struggled with a first-day 43-44 — 87 and finds herself in 12th place individually. Freshman Bailey Rowley was next for PHS at 51-51 — 102.

Host Socorro, the heavy favorite going in, shot a score of 333 and has a 36-stroke lead over Bosque after the first day.

Socorro's Kristen Cline is the individual leader at two-over-par 75, one shot ahead of teammate Shania Berger and Sandia Prep's Kalara Castillo.
