Temperatures in eastern New Mexico are heating up just in time for residents to spend quality time cooling down in city pools and relaxing in local parks.

The Potter Park pool will open for the season next Saturday, and will be open every day but Wednesdays from noon to 5 p.m.
"We are counting down the days until the Splash Park opens," said Clovis resident Gretchen Brown. "With it being hot and my little one not knowing how to swim just yet, it is a perfect place for us."
The Hillcrest Splash Park in Clovis will open next Sunday and offers eight water structures, including a three-ring tunnel and a large bucket splasher.
The Portales City Pool will have swim lessons in addition to its regular open swims, with four concurrent sessions beginning on June 3.
"We're going to have the pool open next Wednesday to coincide with the end of school," said Portales Public Works Director John DeSha.
The Portales pool also boasts a zero-depth entry kiddy pool with water features such as fountains and slides.
DeSha said his department has been working hard to get the Portales city parks cleaned up and ready for the impending summer rush.
"They'll all be in use," said Clovis Parks Director Bill Bizzell of his department's myriad of parks. "That's a big day in the park for our community."
According to Bizzell, some shelter areas at Ned Houk and other Clovis parks are available by rental only, so he urges park-goers to check the area before using it.
