ENMU closing in on filling coaching positions

Eastern New Mexico University is closing in on filling two head coaching positions.

The school is looking to fill its women's basketball and softball positions after Lindsey Wilson and Lauren Sigwing resigned those posts, respectively, earlier this month.

ENMU athletic director Jeff Geiser said Tuesday that the school received 43 applications for women's basketball, and had the list narrowed down to eight for telephone interviews on Tuesday and today.

He said the school expects to invite from two to four finalists for on-campus interviews next week.

"I'm optimistic we can have a coach named by June 7," Geiser said. "We're looking for that right fit and that person who can handle the challenges of coaching at Eastern."

The softball job is about a week behind that pace. Senior women's administrator and events coordinator Sara Hill is heading up the softball committee, and said the hope is to fill that position by mid-to-late June.

Hill said the school received "just over 20" applications, and the committee is hoping to narrow that to eight to 10 in the next few days. She said probably three will be invited for on-campus interviews next week.

Wilson, who posted a 17-39 record in two seasons at ENMU, was recently named the women's head coach at Fresno Pacific, an NAIA school in California currently transitioning to NCAA Division II. Sigwing coached the Zias' softball team for four seasons and had a 58-154 record.
