Portales mayor diagnosed with myeloma

Portales Mayor Sharon King has been diagnosed with myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells, according to a letter she sent to the Clovis Media Inc. about her recent hospital stay.

In the letter, King said she had not been feeling well for about four weeks prior to receiving medical attention locally last week.

“After running various tests, my doctor found several abnormalities in my blood work,” King said. “I was sent to Lubbock for further tests. After lab tests, X-rays and a bone biopsy, the final diagnosis was myeloma.”

King said the disease has not invaded her bones, only the marrow. She added she will receive chemotherapy treatment soon for her disease.
