PHS assembly held regarding dangers of drug use

Portales High School Principal Melvin Nusser said an assembly was held for students Monday regarding the dangers of drug use.

The assembly was held after a fourth PHS student was hospitalized Friday from what Nusser said was an apparent reaction to synthetic marijuana also known as spice. The student was released the same day.

Earlier last week three other students were hospitalized after displaying “high” and sick-like symptoms in class. Nusser confirms that it was spice the students consumed that made them sick.

He added an assembly may be held at Portales Junior High School on the same topic some time this week or next week.
