A Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office deputy is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday after being treated for injuries she sustained from being hit by a pickup truck.

Amber Moore, 26, suffered a dislocated ankle and broken leg, according to the sheriff’s office Chief Deputy Malin Parker.

Moore was hit by a pickup Friday evening while helping children cross the street at Eastern New Mexico University’s soccer field, according to Parker.

While attempting to slow traffic down, Moore put her hand up to pause traffic when she was struck.

Parker labeled the incident an accident, saying the driver was blinded by the sun and could not see Moore, but he said the accident was turned over to state police to investigate.

Parker is unsure if the driver has been charged with anything.

State police did not return a call seeking comment.
