College students and residents throughout eastern New Mexico are feeling the love as they get into the spirit of Valentine’s Day.
At Eastern New Mexico University, the Associated Student Activities Board will present its version of the game show “Baggage,” which was hosted on television by Jerry Springer.
Nicole Reid, coordinator of campus life at Eastern, explained that student daters will have the opportunity to ask three prospective dates about some of their baggage, bad habits or strange hobbies.
The dater will get to choose whose baggage they can handle, and eliminate potential dates accordingly.
“It’s just a fun play on being really up front and honest,” Reid said.
ASAB will provide a dinner date for those couples who get matched up during the game, to be held 7 p.m. this evening at the Campus Union Building.
Also at Eastern, Fusion Funk Collective will hold a Valentine’s Day bake sale featuring cupcakes, cookies and candy from Feb. 10-14 at the Campus Union Building.
According to Yolanda Chavez, proceeds from the sale will go toward the ethnic dance group’s upcoming events, including a trip to a belly dance convention in Albuquerque.
Students at Clovis Community College will also be getting in on the Valentine’s Day action with the Campus Activities Board passing out Valentine-themed candy and cookies today in the campus commons.
As part of its Cultural Arts Series, CCC will also present The Fantasticks at 7 tonight at Marshall Auditorium. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for seniors, military members and students.
Another Clovis Valentine’s Day event is Wheatfields Senior Living Community’s third annual Sweetheart’s Ball, which will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday and is open to the public.
