Retired school teacher Christy Inkrott said she will use the chair she refinished during Tuesday’s workshop at her dinning room table.

Inkrott painted the used chair she purchased for $5 turquoise and later sanded it to give it a distressed look.

Inkrott was among more than a dozen participants in hands-on painting and refurbishing old furniture workshop at the Jake Lopez Building

The Creativity with Paints, Pallets and More workshop was hosted by Connie Moyer, Roosevelt County Extension Home Economist, and was the follow-up to Moyer’s presentation at the Ag Expo in February.

Some of the furniture brought to the workshop were chairs, stools, frames, cabinet doors, and small windows.

Patti Schroeder, retired from the New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department, wanted to turn a table she purchased at an auction at Eastern New Mexico University into a coffee table in her courtyard.

“It look really bad with all the grease, but I am going to make it look like new,” Schroeder said.

Schroeder painted it blue-gray with silver highlights and after she finished painting she went over it with a sander to get a distressed look.
