Couple sentenced for robbery

Staff report

An Albuquerque couple received prison terms this week for armed robbery and drug dealing as part of plea agreements.

Royal D. Jones, 33, and Angel Heard, 24, were sentenced in separate hearings before District Judge Stephen Quinn, according to a press release issued Friday by District Attorney Andrea Reeb.

Jones was sentenced Friday to nine years in prison, according to court records. His attorney Marna Trammell said Jones was facing almost 40 years if convicted and accepted the plea bargain “for the benefit of everyone involved.”

Heard was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison after pleading to accessory to robbery and trafficking, according to court records. Her attorney John Bowlin wasn’t immediately available for comment.

Reeb’s press release said the pair robbed Clovis residents at gunpoint of money and jewelry in November 2012.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Brian Stover prosecuted the cases.
