Construction manager hired for Gidding project

Staff report

A remodeling project for 417 Gidding Street is one step closer to starting.

Last week, the Curry County Commission approved a recommendation to hire SDV Construction of Albuquerque as construction manager.

County Manager Lance Pyle said Tuesday the project is still in need of architectural services. Proposals for these services will be accepted until 2 p.m. on Aug. 6.

An evaluation committee will look at proposals and make a recommendation to the Commission, Pyle said. The recommendation is expected to be considered at either the Aug. 19 or Sept. 2 Commission meeting.

Currently, the Gidding building houses a branch of the post office on the first floor and the Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s Office on the second.

Conceptual plans created by Bob Calvani of NCA Architects in Albuquerque included a possible extra floor between the building’s first and second floors.

Aside from a post office, the current first floor would house the county clerk, the county treasurer and the county assessor.

The extra floor would house county administration and finance offices. The district attorney’s space would remain where it is, but be designated as the third floor.
