Randy and Diane Lieb have spent 40 years of their life actively involved in Roosevelt County 4-H.
The two were in 4-H when they were growing up in Roosevelt County. Both participated in several 4-H programs including showing market lambs. After they got married, the couple had their three children in the organization as well.
Now, their children have left the house but the Liebs have not left 4-H. The couple is still actively involved in 4-H. Randy Lieb is market lamb superintendent and Diane Lieb is the superintendent of the home arts division at the Roosevelt County Fair.
The Lieb’s dedication to the organization was recognized by New Mexico 4-H as they won the “Friends of 4-H” award.
The award is for people who as an extension employee or a volunteer support the organization.
The Lieb’s were nominated by the Roosevelt County 4-H Council, Roosevelt County Cooperative Extension Service and the Roosevelt County Fair Board.
Sherri Best, Roosevelt county extension administrative secretary, said the Liebs were chosen because of their “extensive dedication and involvement to 4-H over the years.”
“In Roosevelt County we like to recognize people who make a difference,” Best said.
Other counties in New Mexico also nominated people who worked with 4-H and the Liebs were chosen.
“We are very honored to receive it. There are a lot of people that work hard in 4-H and they are very deserving of the award,” Randy Lieb said.
Best said a Roosevelt County nominee has not won this honor in many years.
The Liebs were notified that they were nominated and were surprised to find that they won. They went to the July 17 State 4-H conference to received the award.
The Liebs other involvement in the 4-H includes establishing the Youth for Youth club, which 4-H and FFA members in the Roosevelt County Junior Livestock Sale donate $25 of sale proceeds to create a buyer’s club. The club will buy a first time member’s animal.
They are also founding members of the livestock sale.
“It is a privilege to work with parents and kids and then watch them grow,” said Diane Lieb.
The couple said that 4-H is a great program that teaches work ethic and will be with a person for the rest of their lives.
