ALBUQUERQUE— A flash flood watch is in effect for parts of east-central New Mexico and the state’s southeastern plains as storms move across the state on Friday and the weekend.
The National Weather Service says a potentially serious flash flood threat appears likely for portions of eastern and southern New Mexico.
Areas from the south-central mountains to the east central and southeast plains could receive widespread heavy rainfall of 2 to 4 inches with localized amounts between 5 and 8 inches.
The flash flood watch includes the communities of Ruidoso, Roswell, Fort Sumner, Santa Rosa, Melrose and Portales.
The weather service says the south-central mountains, Chaves County and the east-central plains will continue to be the most susceptible areas for heavy rain and possible serious flash flooding this weekend.
