Roosevelt County Commission votes in support of endangered species act

Staff report

Roosevelt County commissioners on Friday unanimously approved a resolution to support the 21st Century Endangered Species Transparency Act during a special business meeting.

Commission Chairman Kendell Buzard told the board it would amend the Endangered Species Act, which has not been amended for 26 years.

“This will really help the landowners effected by this law,” Buzard said.

Proponents say the act will require government to be more transparent in efforts to implement environmental laws.

The act has passed through the U.S. House of Representatives and waits consideration by the Senate.
