Hounds fall in OT

Staff report

ALAMOSA, Colo. — Adams State’s Ethan Jackson hit the post on a shot in the second half, but didn’t miss in overtime as he beat Eastern New Mexico University goalkeeper James Gutierrez to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 victory in the men’s soccer season opener for both teams.

ASU came on strong late, putting nine shots over the final 28 minutes with the last one finally deciding the match.

Gutierrez finished the contest with eight saves, while the Greyhounds managed only three shots on goal against ASU’s Austin Baumeister.

Sophomore forward Ryan McManus nearly broke the ice for ENMU early in the second half, but Baumeister was equal to the challenge.

The Hounds return to action in their home opener at 11 a.m. on Sunday against Colorado-Colorado Springs at the ENMU pitch.
