Floyd (1-0) at Vaughn (0-1)

• When: 1 p.m. Saturday

• Last meeting: 2013, The Eagles handed the Broncos a 60-32 setback at Floyd.

• Last week: Floyd outscored Reserve 37-0 after the first quarter in a 55-18 win on Saturday over the Mountaineers at Carrizozo. The Eagles lost at home to San Jon 53-7.

• Of note: Despite last week’s scores, Broncos coach Steve Foust expects a relatively competitive game. “They’ve got a little size,” he said of the Eagles. “The score from last week is hard to tell because San Jon is a pretty good team.” … Despite their win, Foust said his team is still a work in progress. “We’ve got some kids who haven’t played a lot, but as the season goes I think we’ll get better and better.” … Foust said junior fullback Mark McDonald will miss this week’s contest after insuring a shoulder against Reserve.

Dora (0-1) at Mescalero (0-1)

• When: 7 p.m. today

• Last week: Dora lost at home on Saturday to Foothill 51-32, while the Chiefs were drubbed at Melrose 50-0 on Friday.

• Of note: Melrose returned three punts for scores last week, and the Chiefs were plagued by turnovers. “I expect them to play quite a bit cleaner,” Dora coach Mason McBee said. Still, it’s a game he said the Coyotes should win. “They have good size, but I think we have an edge in speed,” he said. “I feel really good as long as we execute.” … Albuquerque-based Foothill has been a solid 8-man program for some time. “I like that we opened against a real good opponent with a real good quarterback,” McBee said. “It kind of sets the tone for the rest of the year.”
