Woman’s Club

Portales Woman’s Club met Nov. 10, with President June Ferguson presiding.

Gaynelle Thomas gave the invocation. Beth Banda led pledges and Collect.

Fifteen members and three guests were present.

Previous meeting minutes were approved and correspondence was read.

Mary Mendoza won the door prize.

The 2014-2015 budget was approved.

Lori Dunn reported proceeds from the Peanut Festival. Doncella Caywood asked members to bake cookies for the Mayor’s Christmas Tree and for Santa Cop in December.

Ferguson presented etched plates to past presidents Julie Nickles, Teresa Howard and Jan Smartnick.

The club endorsed Ferguson as treasurer for South Center Region Conference, 2016. Caywood introduced others on the hostess committee: Smartnick, Howard and Danielle Swopes.

Following the meeting, Amber Hamilton introduced Keith Wilks, pastor at the First United Methodist Church.

The next meeting is at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 at the club building. Members were reminded to bring gifts for Heartland Continuing Care Center.

El Llano Estacado Resource Council

The El Llano Estacado Resource, Conservation & Development Council is providing rain gauges to individuals in Union, Harding, Quay, Guadalupe, DeBaca, Curry and Roosevelt counties.

Individuals who receive the rain gauges would have to be willing to go through training and to report moisture observations daily via computer or phone.

Training will be held in Clovis at 6:30 p.m. on Monday and at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

El Llano Estacado will purchase the rain gauges for individuals from the above counties who sign up for the program.

Altrusa club of Portales

The Altrusa club of Portales met at noon Nov. 10 in the Zia Room at the Central Annex.

President Sue Bracksieck called the meeting to order.

There were 22 members and three guests present. Bette Martinez drew for the Queen of Hearts and Gaynelle Thomas gave the Accent. Secret pals were thanked.

Following the business meeting, Cozetta Moore gave an update on Holiday Happening, which will be at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 6 in the Ballroom at the ENMU Campus Union Building.

Members signed up to provide door prizes and items for the silent auction.

The next meeting will be Nov. 24 with the Communications Committee in charge of the program.
