Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The blast of wintry weather that pushed through New Mexico this week resulted in several record-low temperatures, including one in Portales.
The National Weather Service’s weather observer reported a low of 5 degrees Monday, which broke the old record of 7 degrees set in 1959, according to Jason Frazier, meteorologist with the NWS in Albuquerque.
The official low in Clovis was 10 degrees, which was just off the record of 9 degrees, also set in 1959, NWS reported.
Eagle Nest led the cold pack Monday with a low temperature of minus-17. The mountain community hadn’t been that cold this early in a season since Nov. 10, 1950, when the temperature dropped to 20-below zero.
Taos, Moriarty, Raton, Las Vegas and Roswell also set records.
David Craft with the National Weather Service said things will warm up around the state by midweek, but another round is expected to bring more cold temperatures and snow to parts of New Mexico by the weekend.
