Clovis police were asking the public’s help Wednesday in finding two people wanted for questioning by Major Crimes Unit detectives investigating the stabbing death of Ariel Ulibarri.
Lloyd Bagwell, 22, and Shannon Buckmaster, 20, were identified by police as “persons of interest” in the ongoing investigation into the brutal Nov. 9 killing of Ulibarri as she and her 6-year-old son walked in Goodwin Trails park. The boy escaped the attack without injury.
linkBagwell is 6-foot-2 inches tall, weighing about 185 pounds. Buckmaster is 5-foot-1 inch, weighing about 135 pounds, police said.
Police said last week they had no suspects in the case. Ulibarri was found dead about 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 9.
Her 6-year-old son had been with her until she told him to “run,” when a man the boy did not know approached them, according to Ulibarri’s sister Leanna Montano.
Bagwell and Buckmaster are not strangers to police or courts in Curry County — both are convicted of felony charges ranging from battery on a police officer to drug possession, according to court documents.
Police declined to offer any further details other than saying both were being sought for questioning.
Montano said she doesn’t think her sister knew either Bagwell or Buckmaster.
“It might be just someone they (police) really need to talk to who have hidden themselves for whatever reasons,” Montano said. “It’s all a shock to me.”
Bagwell spent about two months in Curry County jail after pleading guilty in December to one of two felony and seven misdemeanor charges stemming from a drug arrest in August 2012, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to battery on a police officer and the rest of the charges were dismissed, records indicate.
Bagwell was released on probation from jail in February. Records at nmcourts.gov show his probation was revoked a month later in March.
Buckmaster pleaded guilty in January to two felony counts of battery of a police officer and one felony count of drug possession stemming from a drug arrest in September 2013.
According to court records, Buckmaster was sentenced in July to five years probation.
Police have asked anyone with information about the case to call 911.
