New Mexico fishing report — Nov. 20

This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and the Department of Game and Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.

Northeast Charette Lakes: Closed for the season. Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron on Monday was 15 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. Clayton Lake: Closed for the season. Conchas Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week. Eagle Rock Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using Power Bait and salmon eggs. The boat ramp has been closed due to low water conditions. The lake remains open to canoes, kayaks and other small paddle craft. Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week. Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Lake Alice: Fishing was good using marshmallows and Power Bait for trout. Fishing pressure was light. Lake Maloya: Fishing was good using Power Bait, salmon eggs, bead-head prince nymphs and bead-head wooly buggers for trout. We had no reports on perch. Fishing pressure was very light. Los Pinos: We had no reports from anglers this week. Manzano Lake: Fishing was fair using salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species. Maxwell Lake 13: Closed for the season. Monastery Lake: Fishing was good using Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout. Morphy Lake: Closed for the season. Mt. View Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week. Pecos River: Water flow near the town of Pecos on Monday was 28 cfs. Trout fishing was slow to fair using egg patterns, salmon eggs and worms. Red River: Water flow near the hatchery on Monday was 40 cfs. Fishing was good using poundmeisters, copper John Barrs and salmon eggs for trout. Rio Costilla: We had no reports from anglers this week. Rio Grande: Water flow near the Taos Junction Bridge on Monday was 621 cfs. Fishing was slow to fair using wooly buggers, San Juan worms and salmon eggs for trout. We had no reports on other species. Rio Hondo: Stream flow near Valdez on Monday was 13 cfs. We had no reports from anglers. Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco on Monday was 6.8 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. Santa Barbara: We had no reports from anglers this week. Shuree Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week. Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Storrie Lake: Fishing was slow for all species and fishing pressure was very light. Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Ute Lake: Fishing was fair using slab spoons and blade baits for white bass. We had no reports on other species. Fishing pressure was very light. The surface water temp was in the low 50s.

Northwest Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was light. Animas River: Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 216 cfs. Fishing was fair using wooly buggers and salmon eggs for trout. Albuquerque Area Drains: Fishing on the Albuquerque and Bernalillo Drains was good using salmon eggs, Gulp eggs, worms, small copper John Barrs and zebra midges for trout. Anglers using worms on the Albuquerque Drain also caught and released a few small bass. Fishing on the Belen Drain was good drifting salmon eggs under a bobber for trout. Fishing on the Corrales Drain was fair to good using small midge patterns and salmon eggs for trout. We had no reports from the other drains in the area or on other species. Bluewater Lake: Fishing pressure was light and fishing was slow but there were a few tiger musky caught by anglers using umbrella rigs and crank baits. Anglers should be aware that it is illegal to use bait fish at this lake. Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week. Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week. Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 130 cfs and 74 cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was fair using salmon eggs, San Juan worms and egg patterns for a mixed bag of rainbow and brown trout. Fishing below Abiquiu was fair using salmon eggs and small bead-head nymphs for rainbow trout. Cochiti Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. El Vado Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light. Fenton Lake: Trout fishing was good using olive wooly buggers, Power Bait, olive Pistol Petes, and salmon eggs. Heron Lake: Kokanee snagging was rated as fair for some but slow for others. The best areas were near the dam and in the Ridge Rock area. We had no reports on other species. Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez as of Monday was 26 cfs. Fishing on the Jemez River was fair using copper John Barrs and salmon eggs. We had no reports from the other streams in the area. Laguna Del Campo: Closed for the season. Lake Farmington: Fishing was fair using Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing was slow to fair using salmon eggs for catfish. We had no reports on other species. Navajo Lake: Nov. 15 Mike Cozby and his group caught limits of kokanee while snagging near the dam. He reported that the fish were still quite firm. Fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass was slow with just a few caught by anglers using jigs and tubes. A few rainbow trout were caught by anglers using roe sacs and salmon eggs. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp was in the low to mid 50s. San Gregorio: We had no reports from anglers. San Juan River: Water flow below Navajo Dam on Monday was 353 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was good using foam wing emergers, Griffith’s gnats, BWOs, Desert Storms, small bead-head pheasant tails and egg patterns, Richard Burrows was on the water last Tuesday and Thursday and reported outstanding midge hatches with best flies working being size 20 and 22 BWOs, size 22 Griffith’s gnats and size 20 Desert Storms. Fishing through the bait waters was good using salmon eggs, Griffith’s gnats, copper John Barrs and worms. Santa Cruz Lake: This water has closed to boating and will remain closed until mid-July of 2015. The only fishing access will be from the overlook, which will remain open. The Bureau of Land Management will be renovating the north lake campground, boat launch, picnic area and main access road. We had no reports from anglers this week. Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week. Tingley Beach: Fishing at the Youth and Central ponds was very good using marshmallows, Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout. We had no reports from the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond. Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Southwest Bear Canyon: We had no reports from anglers this week. Bill Evans Lake: Trout fishing was slow to fair using Power Bait and salmon eggs. We had no reports on other species. Caballo Lake: Fishing was slow for all species with the exception of a few catfish caught by anglers using stink baits. The water was murky. Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was fair using slab spoons and blade baits for white bass and an occasional walleye. Fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass was slow. Fishing for catfish was slow with just a few caught by anglers using liver and night crawlers. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp ranged from the high 50s to the low 60s. Escondida Lake: Fishing was very good using orange, red, green and chartreuse Power Bait for trout. A few were also caught by anglers using Pistol Petes. We had no reports on other species. Gila River: Water flow on the Gila as of this past Monday was 83 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. Glenwood Pond: Fishing was good using salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout. Lake Roberts: We had no reports from anglers this week. Percha Dam: Fishing was slow for all species. Quemado Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Rio Grande: Water flow below Elephant Butte on Monday was 1.5 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Young Pond: Fishing was very good using Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout. We had no reports on other species.

Southeast Bataan Lake: Fishing was very good using salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout. Anthony Galvan fished here with his father Ricky Galvan last Saturday and wound up just one fish short of two limits. They were using Power Bait. We had no reports on other species. Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 99 cfs. Fishing was good using salmon eggs for trout. Blue Hole Park Pond: Fishing fair using Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout. We had no reports on other species. Bonito Lake: Closed. Bosque Redondo: We had no reports from anglers this week. Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week. Brantley Lake: Anglers are to practice catch-and-release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish. We had no reports from anglers this week. Carlsbad Municipal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Chaparral Park Lake: Fishing was fair to good using Power Bait, worms, salmon eggs and spinners for trout. We had no reports on other species. El Rito Creek: Fishing was fair using salmon eggs for trout. Eunice Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Green Meadow Lake: Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs, Power Bait and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no reports on other species. Greene Acres Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Grindstone Reservoir: Fishing was good using Gulp eggs, salmon eggs, Power Bait and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no reports on other species. Jal Lake: Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout. Lake Van: Fishing was slow for all species. Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was very good using green, orange and red Power Bait trout. We had no reports on other species. Perch Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 12 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood on Monday was 28 cfs. Fishing was fair using salmon eggs for trout. Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using jig and minnow combinations and night crawlers for small walleye. We had no reports on other species. Sumner Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
