All ALCO Stores, Inc., including outlets in Tucumcari and Muleshoe, will close their doors on Dec. 4, according to an advertisement on the home page of the ALCO Stores website Friday.
All merchandise is on liquidation sale, the advertisement said, and store hours will remain unchanged.
The ALCO store in Tucumcari displayed a large “store closing” sign Friday at its entrance.
The Muleshoe store had “closing” signs posted, along with sales notices that merchandise was 5 percent off.
The advertisement on the corporate website’s home page said, “Total liquidation savings...” on all merchandise at all of ALCO’s 198 stores in 23 states.
Store fixtures and furniture are also for sale, the advertisement read.
Managers at both the Tucumcari and Muleshoe ALCO stores declined comment on Friday. ALCO corporate officials could not be reached.
ALCO and Kmart, on opposite sides of Tucumcari along Route 66, are the largest general merchandise stores in the city.
ALCO stores declared bankruptcy on Oct. 12.
