Patty Dunn will demonstrate how to use elastic in the bobbin of the sewing machine to get a puckered effect. After the seam is stitched, all you need is steam to create the look. Her company is All Dunn Designs in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Sara Mower will show how to easily create beautiful art work with stencils by simply tracing. You can even use the edges to create coordinating frames and borders. She represents Roylco, Inc. in Anderson, South Carolina.
Information on developing a sketchbook starter kit and cooking with potatoes will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” on Tuesday at noon and on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Author and designer, Margaret Peot will explain how to develop a sketchbook starter kit and show how to use it to the maximum. She will explain the importance of beginning a daily practice of thinking about the sketchbook, and what to include in it. Her book is titled “Make Your Mark,” and she lives in New York City.
Frank Muir, executive director for the Idaho Potato Commission will demonstrate preparing the No. 1 requested potato recipe from their website - au gratin potatoes. He'll also show “other” uses for potatoes besides eating. Muir is from Eagle, Idaho.
Au Gratin Idaho® Potatoes
• 2 pounds of Idaho® potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 5 cups)
• 2 tablespoons melted butter
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
• 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
• 1/4 cup fresh bread crumbs
Preheat oven to 425°F. Lightly grease a shallow 1 1/2 quart casserole with butter. Arrange sliced potatoes in layers. Sprinkle with melted butter, salt and pepper. Top with grated cheddar cheese and bread crumbs. Bake 30 minutes, covered. Uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
