A look at bond issue costs

Curry County’s recently approved $15 million bond issue is expected to raise cash needed to expand the jail ($9 million), renovate the old post office building ($3 million estimate) and make up for unfunded mandates passed on by the Legislature.

The following are additional costs associated with the bond sale as provided by county financial advisor Rob Burpo of First American Financial Advisors:

• Bond counsel — $60,000

• Financial advisor — $70,000

• Registrar — $500

• Rating fee — $20,000

• Printing — $1,790

• Miscellaneous — $6,277.44

• Total — $158,567.44

(Interest rates on the bonds are projected to average from 3.672 percent to 3.555 over the 20-year life of the issue.)
