Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
There are so many things I didn’t know when I was child. And so many things I’m still learning.
How very thankful I am for the love that covers over my multitude of sins.
I grew up among people who had endured the brutality of war. I knew nothing about that kind of trauma. There was no ability for depth perception.
When the Berlin Wall was destroyed, I was a young adult. I understood very little about this barrier that had separated families since before I was born. It merely seemed like another day for the history books.
As a child in elementary school, I never realized that all little girls didn’t have grandmothers sewing dresses for them, and grandfathers giving them dollar bills for good report cards.
I didn’t know that my classmate’s mother died when he was a toddler. I assumed everyone went home to a mom who baked cookies.
I can no longer claim childhood innocence. I still won’t know the struggles many will face this month while I go about my days, but I pray I won’t be oblivious.
Perhaps I’ll write a letter to Santa asking for more compassion, more grace, and more understanding.
