Incredible and unique were a few of the words Eastern New Mexico University freshman Michael Poynor used to describe the acrobats of the Fabulous Chinese Acrobat team.

ENMU’s Multicultural Affairs invited the acrobat team from the Bureau of Lectures & Concert Artists to perform Monday evening as part of ENMU’s early celebration of the Chinese New Year.
The team consisted of four performers, Xiao Limeng, Wu Guojuan, Lin Xiaoyu, and Bai Eryong, who wowed the audience of students and Portales residents with feats of balance, skill, strength, and coordination.
Poyner said he enjoyed the entire show, but was particularly impressed by Eryong’s balancing act in which he stands on a plank balanced on a cylinder and bounces bowls from the plank onto his head.
“It was pretty amazing,” Poyner said. “I don’t know why they decided to learn that, but it’s really cool and a very unique talent.”
Limeng’s juggling skills had ENMU freshman Anna George dazzled during the show.
“The fact that he can do it that fast is incredible,” George said.
George said Limeng’s act made her wish she could juggle.
“It (the acrobat show) was incredible unique. It was amazing that anyone could move that way and apply their skills the way they do,” George said.
Acrobat Bai Eryong said the team has been practicing together for years, but he still has a hard time with a few of the acts he performs.
“Sometimes the bowls can go flying and we have fallen while doing handstands, but we have practiced enough that that rarely happens,” Eryong said of the acrobat team’s stunts.

Duan Zhiyong, the show’s host and team interpreter, said the team travels around the U.S. performing at school assemblies and on college campuses throughout the year.
Zhiyong said the acrobats have a sister company in China that does acrobat shows.
“We get to travel around the U.S. and see different places all over America,” Zhiyong said.
Zhiyong said the team enjoys traveling the country because it allows them to meet their audiences and make friends along the way.
