Today’s semifinal games of area interest at the state basketball tournament:
Class 4A girls
Portales (22-6) vs. St. Michael’s (24-6)
8 a.m., The Pit
How they got here: Portales, the top seed in Class 4A, whipped ninth-seeded West Las Vegas 57-31 for its ninth-straight win. The Lady Horsemen, seeded fourth, defeated Kirtland Central 45-37.
Previous meeting: Class 3A 2013 first round, won by Portales 37-34.
Winner: Moves on to the Class 4A championship, 3:30 p.m. Friday at The Pit, against either Hope Christian or Shiprock.
Class 1A girls
Elida (20-6) vs. Evangel Christian (23-3)
11:30 a.m., Bernalillo High School
How they got here: Elida, the top seed and the four-time champion of the since-eliminated Class B, defeated Grady 41-34 Tuesday to win its fourth-straight. The Eagles, seeded fifth, topped Springer 67-61.
Previous meeting: There is no meeting in the last nine seasons.
Winner: Moves on the the Class 1A championship, 11:30 a.m. Friday at The Pit, against either Cliff or Cimarron.
Class 6A girls
Clovis (27-2) vs. La Cueva (23-4)
1:15 p.m., Santa Ana Star Center
How they got here: Clovis won its 13th straight, defeating Valley 57-35 in the Tuesday quarterfinals. The Bears won their 12th in a row Tuesday, defeating Hobbs 63-46.
Previous meeting: January 2014, won 57-48 by Clovis at La Cueva High School.
Winner: Moves on to the Class 6A state championship, 4 p.m. Saturday at The Pit, against either Mayfield or Cibola.
Class 3A girls
Texico (22-4) vs. Eunice (23-5)
9:45 a.m., Santa Ana Star Center
How they got here: Texico, winners of 10 in a row, beat Laguna-Acoma 43-29. The Cardinals, edged Tohatchi 56-54.
Previous meeting: Feb. 28, 72-64 Melrose. The teams have played five times, with Melrose winning three. Feb. 28, when Texico took the District 4-3A title with a 57-43 win. The Wolverines won the series 3-0, with an average win margin of 12 points.
Winner: Moves on to the Class 3A state championship, 1:30 p.m. Friday at The Pit, against either Tularosa or Clayton.
Class 2A girls
Melrose girls (22-5) vs. Logan (21-7)
3 p.m., Bernalillo High School
How they got here: Melrose, seeded second, won its fourth straight Tuesday, 59-38 over Ramah. The third-seeded Longhorns cruised by Mountainair 64-28.
Previous meeting: Feb. 28, 72-64 Melrose. The teams have played five times, with Melrose winning three.
Winner: Moves on to the Class 2A state championship, 5:30 p.m. Friday at The Pit, against either Magdalena or Tatum.
