HOBBS — The Clovis Wildcats saved their best for last Tuesday night at Hobbs.
Clovis got an RBI groundout from senior Brody Edwards in the 10th inning, and the Wildcats got a complete-game five-hitter from Landon Williams in a 2-1 win.

Clovis’ Landon Williams throws a pitch in the 10th inning of his complete game in the opener of Tuesday’s District 4-6A baseball doubleheader at Hobbs. Williams threw 107 pitches during the Wildcats’ 2-1 win.
The Wildcats poured on five runs of insurance in the seventh inning of the nightcap, scoring a 7-0 victory as Matt Lanier and Austin Adams combined to allow just three hits over seven innings.
Both teams moved to 15-9 overall with a 6-4 mark in District 4-6A, but Clovis has the tiebreaker for second place due to the sweep and a split earlier this season in Clovis.
“Coming to Hobbs, a split is good and a sweep’s an added bonus,” Clovis Coach RIchard Cruce said. “I told the guys we had to come down with one game at a time on the mind, and hopefully we could get out with a sweep.
Nobody had more than one hit in the opener, and senior Antonio Hicks had an RBI single in the sixth.
“Landon threw lights out,” Cruce said. “We tip our hat to him. He gets out of a 10-inning ballgame with 107 pitches; that’s unheard of anymore.”
Four Wildcats had multi-hit games in the nightcap, including a 2-for-3 by Keaton Greenwalt and Joseph Ramos going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
The district is back in action Friday when Clovis goes to Alamogordo (7-17, 0-10) and Carlsbad (17-7, 8-2) hosts Hobbs. Clovis can finish no higher than second, and would finish there with at least a split in both series or a Cavemen sweep.
Hobbs, which split with Carlsbad at home earlier this season, could win the district with a sweep at Carlsbad.
