Animal stories ...

• The Animal Control Task Force — always a hoot — meets at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Clovis City Hall. Open to the public. Lots of well-meaning folks who have a tendency to wander from the agenda, not unlike some Curry County commissioners we know.

Water everywhere ...

• Gayla Brumfield’s position as leader of the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority is up for grabs next month. Her term expires effective July 1 but it’s a safe bet there are already a lot of behind-the-scenes efforts to either keep her as chairwoman or dump her. Brumfield says she wants to stay on. We’ll keep you updated.

Fixing the mess ...

• Roosevelt County commissioners meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday — these days always to figure out how to slash its dwindling budget in the least painful way. They’re swimming in a $1 million-plus deficit and now at the point of layoffs. Tuesday will tell.
