Curry County Republican Women

CCRW met May 12 at the Dakota Steakhouse. Seventeen were in attendance.

Rube Render, Curry County Republican Central Committee chairman, reminded members of the Silver Elephant fundraiser/dinner in Santa Fe on May 30. Carly Fiorina, a strong Republican presidential candidate is guest speaker.

Candace Morrison introduced guest speaker, Larry Fry, the new Clovis city manager. Fry complimented city personnel on repair of streets after the rains. Street and road repairs will be on-going projects as well as the Ute water project. He said there are many vacancies, including the city engineer and fire chief. He plans to enhance the efficiency of the different departments in municipal services.

City Commissioner Gary Elliott complimented Fry on how well he was working with everyone.

Next meeting will be held at Dakota Steakhouse June 9. Guests are welcome to attend these meetings. There are always interesting and informative guest speakers. Altrusa Int’l of Clovis

Altrusa International of Clovis held their annual installation of officers on June 8 at 6 p.m. at K-Bob’s Steakhouse. The meeting was called to order by President Judy Cox and the Altrusa Opening Prayer was recited.

Present were Judy Cox, Sherry Turner, Debbie Smith, Glenda Hileman, Judith Glikas, Christina Bean, Margaret Blazek, Kathy Travis, Sylvia Bean, and Carolyn Muffley. Guests were: Michael Nace, Frank Bean, Ricky Smith, Eric Turner, and Melissa Gomez.

The installation ceremony was conducted by Travis. New officers installed were Turner, president; Smith, vice president; Hileman, treasurer; Glikas, secretary; two-year Director Christina Bean; Travis and Blazek, one-year directors.

The club presented Cox, outgoing president, with a framed Altrusa poem which was hand lettered by Muffley.
