Clovis police capture man mistakenly released from jail

Staff report

A Clovis man awaiting trial on more than a dozen charges was arrested Wednesday by Clovis police and placed in the Curry County Adult Detention Center, nearly two weeks after his mistaken release.

Sandra Stewart, public services director for Curry County, said she received word around 8 p.m. from Detention Center Administrator Tori Sandoval that Albert R. Moncada, 34, was back in the CCADC. He was arrested without incident, according to a CPD release.

“I want to thank all of the law enforcement who helped us with this matter,” Stewart said.

According to the release, officers acted on a tip that Moncada was seen entering a residence on the 400 block of Circle. A few minutes after police arrived at the residence, Moncada and 28-year-old Guadalupe Robles stepped out and were taken into custody.

Moncada faces seven felony charges, including aggravated assault with a gun, and six misdemeanor charges stemming from separate incidents earlier this year.

Robles faces a charge of aiding a felon.

Moncada made bond on his initial charges in magistrate court, but did not show up for the court date, according to prosecutor Zachary Bidner. He was arrested April 18 with his $65,000 bond changed to cash only, but was released three months later when a bondsman posted 10 percent on each bond.

Stewart said the release of Moncada remains under investigation.
