Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Notebook — July 21

Going fast...

• Space for the annual Roosevelt County Fair is getting booked quickly in the Merchants Building but there’s still time. The fair is Aug. 18-22. Contact the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce at 575-356-8541.

Pay attention...

• The Curry County Road Department is asking drivers to pay close attention and to exercise caution on some county roads devastated by recent flooding. Crews are working daily to replace saturated road beds and repair washouts. Watch the roads for danger and be careful when work crews are present.

Special meeting...

• The jail — big surprise — will be most of what’s talked about when Curry County Commissioners meet in special session 9 a.m. Thursday at the Clovis-Carver Library’s North Annex. There will be presentations on fixing the leaky roof and another on expanding the existing facility. County Manager Lance Pyle is also expected to give an update on the removal of mold discovered several weeks ago.

Favorite rock lyrics...

• Bet you didn't think I knew how to rock n' roll...Lord, I got the boogie-woogie right down in my very soul. — Eric Clapton’s “Blues Power”
