Information on using magazine pages to make purses, tote bags and more, plus combining flowers and fruit to create an English garden will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and at noon on Thursday.

Ann Butler is a designer, author and instructor for Creative Industries, and she’s going to demonstrate how to use magazine pages to create a fabric to create a one-of-a-kind purse, totebag, book cover or whatever you desire. She lives in Villard, Minnesota.
Floral designer, Carly Cylinder, will show how to combine flowers and fruit in a basket to create an English garden. This makes an inexpensive yet impressive arrangement that is great to use for many occasions. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Information on thread painting, making blueberry drinks and creating a faux rock finish on walls will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” on at noon on Tuesday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Author and designer Nancy Prince will show how to do thread painting. This method is especially good when a design has a high stitch density and can be cut out. She lives in Orlando, Florida.
Jill Klosowski, a spokesperson in Vancouver, British Columbia, will talk about the benefits of incorporating blueberries in drinks, such as sodas, punch and popsicles as healthy ways to get kids to enjoy blueberries.
Barbara Wurden is going to show an amazing wall that has been created using rock patterns you make out of butcher paper or craft paper. She lives in Long Beach, California.
Magazine Technique for Purses and Journals
Materials:
• Gel medium
• Shimmer translucent (2 - 3 colors copper, gold sparkle & pearl)
• 1” - 1 1/2” paint brushes
• Assorted trims
• 2 - 3 yards woven braid
• Fabric tac
• Cloth base: old clothing, fabric, placemats, etc.
• Torn out magazine pages
• Toothpick
• Scissors
• Clothes pins
1. Apply gel medium to back side of magazine pages with paint brush and on fabric base; place magazine onto base then add gel medium on top side of magazine page; continue until fabric base is covered.
2. Apply shimmer translucents on top and let dry.
3. Cut the fabric base for purse or journal (making your own pattern or using purchased pattern.)
4. Apply trims to the inside and outside with glue; let dry.
Tips:
• Good quality magazine pages work best.
• Cut or tear magazine pages for the look you like.
• If you don't like how something looks add another piece over it.
• Add Shimmers until you are happy with the look, you can never add too much.
• Use toothpick to apply fabric tac.
• Use clothespins to hold trim in place while drying.
