Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Editor's notebook — Sept. 4

Captured on film: The most interesting email of the week award goes to Dennis Long of Ardmore, Oklahoma.

“I have inherited some 8mm film of our family,” he begins. “The approximate dates range from the late 1950s through 1975.”

Long has transferred the film of the eastern New Mexico area onto compact disks since some of us don’t have 8mm film projectors anymore. (Or we just can’t find that dang thing.)

The images, mostly from family gatherings, were provided by Long’s Aunt Wanda Long Sain, who was married to Earl Sain.

Wanda Sain worked for the Melrose schools as a janitor and Long said he believes her family owned a fence company in the Clovis-Melrose area.

Some of their relatives included Sam and Lee Long and Delmer, Woodrow, and Chistine Hoskins.

“To my knowledge, my Aunt Wanda and Uncle Earl had no children of their own. Could you please share my information in your area with hopes of sharing these tapes ...” Long wrote.

He’s asking anyone interested to call him at 580-247-5432 or email him at [email protected]
