Borden: Business building featured on show

Information on card making, cake decorating and tips on building a business will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and at noon on Thursday. (All times are Mountain.)

Diane Tunnell is an independent demonstrator, and she’s going to show how to make a card using a technique referred to as emboss resist. She’ll tell what supplies are needed, show how to heat the embossing powder and then show how to add additional color, if desired. Tunnell lives in Clovis.

If you really want to impress your family and friends, watch carefully as Nancy Siler demonstrates making a regal rainbow ruffle cake. Siler is a representative of a baking company in Woodridge, Illinois.

Gary Barnes has successfully built three businesses from the ground up. He will share his success tips with others by telling five things they don’t teach in business school. His owns a company in Denver, Colorado.

Information on making a hat or clothes rack, making 3-dimensional picture frames and a discussion on the psychology of colors will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon on Tuesday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday. (All times are Mountain).

Furniture refinishing expert, Bruce Johnson, will show how to make a very unique and practical hat rack or apron rack using old antique door knobs. Johnson works in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey.

Patsy Shields will demonstrate how to make 3-dimensional embroidered picture frames, which make great gifts, bazaar items or to use in your own home. She lives in Sellersburg, Indiana.

Whether you like warm or cool colors, Lacy Roberts will talk about the psychology of colors as they are used in different rooms in the home. She is with a furniture company in Lubbock.

Emboss Resist Card

1. Card measurements: Card Base: Baked brown sugar 5 1/2” X 8 1/2” scored and folded along 8 1/2” side at 4 1/4”; Frames: Midnight muse 4 1/8” X 4” and 1” X 4”; Stamped images: Very vanilla 3 7/8” X 3 3/4” and 3/4” X 3 3/4”

2. Use embossing buddy to rub across the very vanilla pieces to avoid embossing powder sticking on paper where not stamped.

3. Using versa mark, stamp the larger piece of very vanilla with the swallowtail stamp. All of the image will not fit on the paper, fit as desired. Using versa mark, stamp the smaller piece of very vanilla with one of the butterflies from the papillon potpourri stamp set. Stamp multiple times as allowed by the size of the paper.

4. Cover the stamped images with black embossing powder. Tap back of paper to remove excess embossing powder.

5. Use the heat tool to set the embossing powder.

6. Using sponges and cotton swabs and (your choice of color) ink pads, color the image as desired.

7. Using a soft tissue, wipe off the excess ink from the embossed outline. The embossing resists the ink and can be wiped off with the tissue.

8. Glue stamped images to pieces of midnight muse card stock to create a frame. Glue the framed images to the card base.
