The 2015 Homecoming Week for Portales High School has already started, but the majority of the festivities have yet to begin. Today and Friday are the busiest days, according to school faculty.
With the underclass homecoming court already named, the 2015 Homecoming Queen will be announced today during this afternoon’s pep rally in the Ram Athletic Center.

The following is the list of those vying for the title:
• Kambrey Blakey
• Hannah Cabeldue
• Amanda Schmidt
• Kaycee Stone
• Anja Tech
At 7:30 p.m., the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds will play host to the annual bonfire with the homecoming dance following on the entertainment slab.
Phoebe Gomez, the business secretary of Portales High, said this year the dance will be smaller than in previous years, but students are still looking forward to the dance. Driver’s Ed. Instructor Glen Johnson will be the DJ for the event.
And what would a homecoming week be without a football game?
The undefeated Portales Rams will play the Pojoaque Valley Elks 7 p.m. Friday at Blackwater Draw.
“Homecoming is all about alumni coming back,” Principal Mark Gormley said. “Not going to lie, having a 5-0 football team is great, but homecoming is more than just one football game. It’s a chance to reconnect and see old faces.”
While the football game may be the big ticket of the week, it’s not the only game in town as Portales will host the Peyton Chavez Memorial Volleyball Tournament at 9 a.m. Friday through Saturday evening at the athletic center.
In conjunction with homecoming will be eight teams playing in the round-robin pool play and a following eight-match tournament: Portales, Bosque, Hatch, Pojoaque, Robertson, Ruidoso, Sandia Prep and West Las Vegas.
The following were elected the homecoming court:
• Junior Samantha Montoya
• Sophomore Sarah Lovato
• Freshman Savannah Sotelo
