Borden: Hummingbirds on upcoming show

Information on making projects from duct tape and hummingbirds will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and at noon on Thursday. (All times are Mountain.)

She’ll show some crazy cool ideas for making everything from jewelry, fashions, hair accessories, handbags and much more. She lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Ray Pawley is a retired curator with the Chicago Zoological Parks, and one of the species he managed was hummingbirds. He’s going to talk about these various species of hummingbirds, talk about feeding them and share the recipe he uses for attracting these tiny birds. Pawley lives in Hondo.

Information on making stretchy beaded bracelets, cooking brown rice, and preparing snacks for special occasions will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon on Tuesday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday. (All times are Mountain).

Sisters, designers and authors, Liz Gourley and Ellen Talbott will show how to make popular stretchy bracelets using various beads. Their latest book is titled Quick & Easy Beaded Jewelry. Gourley lives in Ventura, California and Talbott lives in El Cajon, California.

Gloria Kohnen will demonstrate how to cook brown rice, and explain the nutritional benefits of eating rice to help prevent certain health problems. She’s from Houston.

Whether it’s time for the Super Bowl Party or any special occasion, cookbook author, Janel Franklin shares recipes that are sure to be a big hit. She’s from Tahoka, Texas.

Brown Rice Crisp

• Vegetable cooking spray

• 1 cup brown rice

• 2 cans (20 ounce, each) pie sliced apples

• 1 Tbsp. lemon juice

• 2 cups packed brown sugar, divided

• 2 tsp. cinnamon

• 1 1/2 cups uncooked oatmeal

• 4 Tbsp. margarine

• 1 cup raisins

• 1 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350° F. Prepare rice according to package directions. Spray shallow 1 1/2 quart baking dish with cooking spray; set aside. Combine rice, apples, lemon juice, 1 cup brown sugar and cinnamon in prepared dish. Combine oatmeal and remaining brown sugar in medium bowl; cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in raisins and nuts. Sprinkle over rice mixture. Bake until heated, about 20 minutes. Serve warm, garnish if desired. Serves 6.
