Borden: No-sew pillows on upcoming show

Information on making money while traveling, decorating cupcakes and common cat health problems will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and at noon on Thursday. (All times are Mountain.)

Adventure writer and photographer, Yvonne Lanelli, will share some suggestions for ways to make money while traveling to your exciting destinations. This includes writing, making presentations on cruise ships and even organizing your own tour group. She lives in Alto.

Creative Living

Nancy Siler represents a baking brand in Woodridge, Illinois, and she’s going to show how to do a variety of techniques that make decorating cupcakes, cookies and other delicacies even easier. This includes ways to fill a cupcake, how to spatula ice a cupcake and even make various swirl designs.

Recent studies show that cat obesity has risen more than 90 percent since 2007, and people are beginning to look at their pet food as the source of health problems. Will Post, founder of a pet food company, will talk about five common cat health problems. He’s from Atlanta, Georgia.

Information on cooking with pears, making no-sew pillow covers, and tips on sewing doll clothes will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon on Tuesday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday. (All times are Mountain.)

Registered dietitian and spokesperson for a pear bureau, Pat Baird will talk about different varieties of pears, shares ripening techniques and tips to prevent browning, as well as discuss nutrition. She lives in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Designer Kim Deneault will show how to make an easy “no-sew” pillow cover using only two pieces of fleece fabric. This project is great for kids or youth groups to make. She’s from Lincolnton, North Carolina.

Andrea Schewe is a pattern designer with a pattern company in New York City, and she is going to share some tips on sewing doll clothes. She'll talk about the fabric choices, seams and pressing tips for making doll clothes.

Chocolate Chip Pear Bars

• 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened

• 1 cup packed brown sugar

• 1 16-ounce can pear halves or slices, drained

• 4 large egg whites

• 3 tsp. vanilla extract

• 2 cups quick-cooking rolled oats

• 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

• 1/2 tsp. baking soda

• 1/4 tsp. salt

• 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350° F. In medium bowl cream together butter or margarine and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in egg whites, vanilla, and pears. In separate bowl, combine oats, flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir dry ingredients into pear mixture; mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Spread batter into greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Cool on rack, and cut into 24 squares. Makes 24 bars.
