Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Clovis Media Inc. names new publisher

STAFF REPORT

Clovis Media Inc. has named Rob Langrell as its new publisher.

Langrell will serve as publisher of the two daily newspapers — the Clovis News Journal and Portales News-Tribune — as well as oversee the company’s three weekly publications — the Quay County Sun, Cannon Connections and My Eastern New Mexico.

Langrell, who turns 47 today, accepted the position after spending the past 16 months as publisher of the Sidney (Nebraska) Sun-Telegraph and as regional director of weekly newspaper operations for the Western Nebraska Observer and the Pine Bluffs (Wyoming) Post. Those publications are all owned by Stevenson Newspapers.

He previously spent 18 1/2 years in Las Vegas, Nevada. There, he served as the editor of special publications for the newspaper and magazine division of the Greenspun Media Group for 10 years and was the assistant sports editor of the Las Vegas Sun newspaper — also a part of the media group — from 1996-2004.

Rob Langrell has more than 20 years of newspaper experience.

Prior to that, Langrell served in various newspaper roles, including time as the managing editor of the Delaware State News and sports editor of the Gaston (North Carolina) Gazette, Burlington (North Carolina) Times-News and Corning (New York) Leader.

“Rob is a crackerjack publisher,” said Gary Stevenson, co-owner of Clovis Media Inc. and Stevenson Newspapers. “We are excited to bring his energy and abilities to eastern New Mexico.”

Langrell moved to Clovis with his wife, Tina, and their two sons. Connor is a sophomore at Clovis High School and Garrett is a freshman at Clovis High’s Freshman Academy. The couple also has two daughters — Megan, who resides in San Marcos, California, and Caitlin, who lives in Columbia, South Carolina.

Langrell is a 1990 graduate of Saint Louis University, where he majored in communications.

“I’m looking forward to all of the opportunities that lie ahead of us at Clovis Media,” Langrell said. “We want to make sure the papers we produce are something readers look forward to picking up every day, full of news, features, sports and more. We have a great team of employees who know the importance of our newspapers in Clovis, Portales, Tucumcari and all of the surrounding communities.”

“It’s great to be part of the community,” he added. “It’s also an honor to lead Clovis Media into the future, where exciting times lie ahead. These newspapers have a long and rich history, and we plan to build on that legacy.”

Langrell can be reached via email at [email protected] or by phone at 575-763-3431.
